Born in Auvergne, Fred Langlais completed all his studies at the National Conservatory of Clermont-Ferrand. He began music at the age of 5 in accordion, music theory, and percussion classes. Later, he joined the saxophone class at the CNR of Clermont-Ferrand and in 1999 obtained his First Prize.

At just 10 years old, Fred was spotted by Maurice Larcange, who had him perform on major national stages and television shows as the ”Petits Prodiges de l’accordéon” (Young Accordion Prodigy) - tours of Zéniths, Palais des Congrès, Palais des sports, Sacrée soirée (TV), Tous à la Une (TV)…).

1993 marked the year of winning the French Accordion Cup as well as the First Prize from Sacem.

At only 16 years old, he became the youngest accordionist to receive the World title at the Accordion World Cup in 1994 under the auspices of Marcel Azzola in Colmar (FR). That same year, he received the diploma of End of Music Training Studies with honors in harmony and counterpoint.

He worked on arranging parts of Italian and French operas for accordion and performed them worldwide with soprano, mezzo-soprano, and tenor (in Thailand, Norway, Portugal, Canada, Belgium, England, etc.). His compositions for Bandoneon, Accordion, Amoriental, and string quartet followed. In 2015, emblematic titles like Panam'Swing, Sadango... were recorded at the Legendary Abbey Road B Studio in London and accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

This work earned him numerous distinctions from Sacem / Sacem Prize 1993, Francis Baxter Prize 2002, Professional Member in 2009, and Definitive Member in 2012.

In 2018, he was commissioned an original composition by Maestro Philippe HUI and the Philharmonie des Deux Mondes. It is with his long-time partner and duetist, Samuel Garcia, that they composed "Nueva Vida," a concerto for Bandoneon and Orchestra, which has been regularly programmed since 2020.

Collaborations:

In 1997, Fred Langlais founded the duo ”FLSG” with Samuel Garcia. Since then, the group has toured the globe and offers a repertoire mainly based on their compositions, with some famous themes arranged by the duo.

Since 2012, Christophe Goze and Fred have collaborated on numerous eclectic projects, recording 2 albums for Audio Network (Fado and Tango), 1 album for CDM Music. Fred also had the honor of participating in the recording of the album "Reminiscence" alongside Matthieu Rabaté, Laurent Faucheux, and Roberto Briot.

Schubert Box is the name given by the Opera de Limoges to an original project in which Fred Langlais's accordion plays a strategic role. Since 2017, this show has toured France with the wonderful participation of Eve Christophe (soprano), Elina Kuperman (violin), and Julien Lazignac (cello).
